Do you charge your robot during winter?

“There is much you can do to enhance the performance and extend the lifespan of your robotic lawn mower’s blades and battery,” says Markus Busk Salo, Team Manager at Clas Ohlson’s Customer Care, Second Line.

Here are some tips from Markus for autumn, winter, and beyond:

✅ Cleaning & Storage: Once the grass stops growing for the season, do a checkup for the winter storage. Give the mower a thorough clean. Avoid using a pressure washer—use a cloth or dish brush to remove grass clippings (and always ensure the mower is turned off). Fully charge the battery before storing it in a frost-free space.

✅ Battery Care: Charge the battery at least once during winter to prevent it from fully discharging. If the voltage drops too low, the battery might not work again. But no worries—we’ve got replacements if needed.

✅ Protect the Charging Station: Invest in a cover for the charging station to protect it from rain in summer and snow in winter. If possible, bring the station indoors during the winter months.

And when spring comes around again:

✅ Boundary Wire: In spring we get many calls from customers whose boundary wires have been chewed through by rodents. We’ve got all the equipment you need to fix it.

✅ Lawn inspection: Keep your lawn clear of branches, cones and other debris that the winter storms might have caused, as objects in the grass could wear down the blades prematurely.

✅ Wheel and blade inspection: Clean the wheels regularly to maximise battery life and ensure your mower is ready for the new season. Also check the blades regularly and replace them as needed for the best cutting performance. We have spare blades available for when it’s time for an upgrade.

✅ Storm Protection: During thunderstorms, remember to unplug not only the power cable but also disconnect the boundary wire from the charging station for extra safety.
