During 2019, Clas Ohlson will phase out the sale of disposable barbecues and offer clever, portable alternatives instead. The initiative is part of Clas Ohlson’s sustainability strategy, where products with a negative environmental impact are continuously phased out.

About a month ago, Clas Ohlson announced that the company will stop selling disposable plastic cutlery. Now the decision has been taken to stop selling disposable barbecues for environmental reasons.

“The disposable barbecue is a product that contributes to littering, it is not resource efficient and it often ends up in the rubbish bin instead of being recycled. This is why we have decided to remove this product from our product range. Our focus in the future will be on clever, portable alternatives and several new models will be launched this spring,” says Nina Cronehag, Business Leader at Clas Ohlson.

Clas Ohlson’s goal is that the proportion of products which contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle shall be 25 percent of the company’s total sales in the year 2020.This means that the company will actively and continuously incorporate products into their range that in one way or another are more environmentally friendly and resource efficient than comparable products, while at the same time remove products that are unsustainable, such as the disposable barbecue.
