"Involuntary loneliness is a public health problem. There is a clear connection between loneliness and both physical and mental illness," says Maria Thulemark, HR Manager Business Support at Clas Ohlson.
Clas Ohlson is part of the business network against loneliness. In the network, we aim to work together to create long-term and sustainable solutions to battle involuntary loneliness, and to increase community.
"For some of our customers, the interaction in the store may be the only human contact they have during the day. Some of our employees may also feel lonely. All of us have the opportunity to make a difference in our everyday lives," says Maria.
Every year, Clas Ohlson receives millions of customer visits, and we have around 5,000 employees.
"At Clas Ohlson, it is important to have an inclusive and encouraging environment where everyone can feel valued and welcome, and our stores help to create spaces where people can meet and interact with each other. We strive to make every store visit warm and welcoming. Seeing each other and saying hello can mean more than you think," says Maria.
"Involuntary loneliness is a challenge, but by recognising it and taking small steps in our daily lives, we can all help build a more inclusive society. A simple hello, a conversation, or a welcoming environment can make a big difference. We can all contribute, one small action at a time!" says Maria Thulemark.
