Conclusion of the Christmas Save the Children Campaign

The Christmas 2016 Save the Children Campaign is now over and thanks to our customers we are able to donate no less than SEK 1.5 million to children in need!

During last year’s Christmas shopping, Clas Ohlson have sold selected products where a dedicated part of the selling price has been donated to the important work of Save the Children. The money is used in a Save the Children project in China, which is aimed at improving conditions for migrant families, that is people who have moved from the rural sides to the cities to work, with education, healthcare, a meaningful spare-time and integration help in society.

“We are incredibly pleased with our customers’ and coworkers’ commitment to this campaign! Thanks to this year’s contribution we will be able to keep supporting the migrant workers and their children. This year, we will also, as a test, set up safe havens for the children, adjacent to the factories, to facilitate for children visiting their parents during school breaks”, says Åsa Portnoff Sundström, Head of Sustainability at Clas Ohlson.

As of today, there are 269 million migrant workers whose 62 million children are left in the countryside while their parents move to the big cities to work. The children often grow up in the care of other family members and might get to meet their parents once a year. The children who, after all, migrate together with their parents often live in exposed environments with few resources and limited access to education and healthcare.
