Conclusion of the Christmas Save the Children Campaign
The Christmas 2015 Save the Children Campaign is now over and thanks to our customers we were able to donate no less than SEK 2.3 million.
The proceeds will go towards the Save the Children project in China which is aimed at improving conditions for migrant workers in China and their children and also to the Save the Children Emergency Relief Fund.
The money raised by the campaign gives migrant workers and their children access to education, leisure activities, remote parental support and help with integration through a number of service centres in the industrial zones of Zhuhai and Nanjing where migrant workers and even accompanying children live.
“We are incredibly pleased with the engagement of our customers and staff. Together with our customers and through our co-operation with Save the Children we can have a positive impact on the Chinese migrant workers and their children”, says Åsa Portnoff Sundström, Head of Sustainability at Clas Ohlson.
In present day China there are 269 million migrant workers whose 62 million children are left in the countryside while their parents move to the big cities to work. The children often grow up in the care of other family members and might get to meet their parents once a year. Those children who follow with their parents when they migrate often live in challenging environments with few resources and limited access to education and healthcare.
