Responsibility for the environment, people and society as a whole runs as a common thread throughout our entire business operations and is an important factor for all the decisions we make.
Sustainable development
Sophia, Gustaf and Jacob. These are the names of Clas Ohlson’s very first trainees. They decided to apply after seeing a small advert in the trainee guide. And the competition for traineeplaces was incredibly tough.
“We’re aware that we’ve been given an enormous opportunity,” says Jacob Bartoletti.Jacob is with his fellow trainees in Insjön for the first few days of the year and a half long trainee programme. They’ve had a busy schedule, and they’re slightly tired but cheerful when I interview them.“It’s a fantastic feeling knowing that Clas Ohlson is investing so much in us. As a result, we want to give as much back as possible.”
The three trainees were chosen following a gruelling selection process. After a round of interviews and personality tests, it was clear that these were the three who would become Clas Ohlson’s first ever trainees. “We all have different backgrounds, and we’re interested in working in very different areas,” says Sophia Bonnevier Dudzik, who comes from Lund where she took a master’s degree in economics. “But we’ll see. In a year and a half ’s time, we might have completely different ideas.”“I’m interested in strategic work and management, so I look forward to finding out more about how things work at Clas Ohlson.”Gustaf Ollas grew up in Falun, making him the only local in the group. His qualifications include a degree in business economics. During his studies he interviewed Klas Balkow as part of a project, and was impressed by Klas and the company. When he then saw the advert in the trainee guide, he didn’t hesitate to apply.
Jacob hails from Lidingö and – after many years of studying – speaks fluent Chinese. The fact that Clas Ohlson works so much with China is what tempted him to apply. His ambition is to work with purchasing and business in China in the future.During their trainee period, the threesome will run various projects of all sizes independently. They will also carry out placements for a while in various stores and learn about in-store work from the bottom up. This is something that all three are positive about.“We won’t get special treatment just because we’re trainees,” says Gustaf.“We’ll work just as hard as anyone else, and when we’re working in-store it’ll be store hours that apply, including working in the evening and at weekends.”During their short time with the company, Sophia, Gustaf and Jacob have already noticed that the employees they meet are proud to be part of Clas Ohlson.“They can say ‘I’ve been here for 26 years’, and their eyes light up as they say it,” adds Sophie. “That’s fantastic!”
A trainee is normally a recent graduate following a trainee programme. Trainee programmes are run by companies and organisations, and are a form of employment. These programmes normally include both practical and theoretical elements.Text and photography: Sofia Alm
