LED Lighting Products

Clas Ohlson sells various LED (Light Emitting Diode) light bulbs, which enable customers to save energy and resources as they are more energy efficient and have a longer useful life than low energy fluorescent bulbs or conventional incandescent light bulbs.

What is a LED?

A Light Emitting Diode (LED) is a semiconductor device that radiates light when electric current is passed through it. Low-intensity LEDs have been used in a range of electrical devices since the 1960s. However, modern high-intensity LEDs are now used to generate bright and energy efficient lighting.

Clas Ohlson LED lighting products

Clas Ohlson sells LED light bulbs that fit into conventional bulb sockets and can replace a range of indoor and outdoor fluorescent or incandescent bulbs. Other Clas Ohlson LED lighting products include desk lamps, spotlights, downlighters, bicycle lights, torches and headlamps.

Summary

LEDs are more energy efficient, have a long useful life, do not contain toxic substances and have greater functionality compared with fluorescent or incandescent bulbs. LEDs are currently more expensive than energy efficient bulbs, however they have the potential to make significant long-term financial savings due to their energy efficiency and long useful life.

LED lighting products

Energy efficiency

LED bulbs typically consume around 85 % less energy than incandescent bulbs that generate the same amount of light. For example, Clas Ohlson’s Osram 2 w LED bulb consumes 87 % less energy than a 15 w incandescent bulb, which has the same 132 lumen lighting effect.

Long useful life

Clas Ohlson’s Osram LED bulb is capable of emitting light for 25,000 hours, compared with a conventional incandescent bulb, which has a design lifespan of 1,000 hours. Fluorescent bulbs typically last for between 10,000 and 15,000 hours. LEDs can consequently be more resource efficient as fewer bulbs are required over a period of time.

Non-toxic substances

LED bulbs do not contain mercury, unlike low energy florescent bulbs, which have to be properly disposed of to avoid air and water pollution. LED bulbs do not require special disposal and can be recycled, as they do not contain mercury.

High functionality

Unlike florescent light bulbs, LED bulbs light instantly when switched on. LEDs also typically fail by dimming overtime, compared with incandescent bulbs, which suffer from an abrupt burn-out.

Learning from good practice

LED bulbs may have a greater initial cost compared to fluorescent or incandescent bulbs but enable customers to make significant long-term financial and environmental savings. LED bulbs also provide an alternative to fluorescent bulbs as incandescent bulbs are being phased out for within the EU by 2012.
